Queen’s Fresher footballers had their season brought to a grinding halt by a strong UL side at Abbotstown on Wednesday evening on a scoreline of 0-12 to 3-15. A frenetic opening period in which UL converted 1-4 from their first five attacks laid the platform for their eventual success. Queen’s could only muster a single point in the same spell and butchered a series of scoring changes that would have seen them well in the game.
The early advantage opened by the Limerick team in the opening spell was retained throughout the first half and they held a 1-11 to 0-7 advantage early int he second half. The game was put to bed from the fiftieth minute with UL’s second goal and there was no way back for Queen’s.
UL progress to the semi-final where they await the winners of next week’s UUJ and NUIG clash.
