Seachtain na Gaeilge Launch

Popular radio and TV presenter Lynette Fay (centre) is joined by Ursula Uí Dhonnaile (L), Líofa Development Officer, and musician and Irish speaker Tura Atura at the launch of Seachtain na Gaeilge at Queen’s GAA Festival.

Students from all Ireland, North and South, have been encouraged to sign up to the Líofa campaign at the Festival which encourages people to make a personal pledge to improving their level of Irish and in doing so joining a community of people focused on using and learning Irish. Seachtain na Gaeilge is an international festival which runs in March every year to promote the Irish language and culture in Ireland and abroad. As one of the biggest celebrations of the Irish language and culture each year, thousands of events will be running in Ireland and abroad to celebrate the Irish language and culture.  Seachtain na Gaeilge invites everyone to take the opportunity to enjoy Irish, whether native speakers, learners or completely new to the language. Among the main events of Seachtain na Gaeilge 2014 is Rith 2014, the national relay run from Cork to Belfast taking place from 7 – 15 March. A full list of Seachtain na Gaeilge events is available on www.snag.ie and on the festival app, SnaG 2014, which is available to download for free on iTunes and on Google Play. You can follow Seachtain na Gaeilge on Facebook (SeachtainnaGaeilge) and on Twitter (@SnaGaeilge).

I dteannta an láithreora raidió agus teilifíse Lynette Fay (lár), tá Ursula Uí Dhonnaile (ar chlé), Oifigeach Forbartha Líofa, agus ceoltóir agus cainteoir Gaeilge Tura Arutura ag seoladh Sheachtain na Gaeilge ag Féile CLG Ollscoil na Banríon. Tá mic léinn ó gach cearn d’Éirinn, ó thuaidh agus ó dheas, á spreagadh ag an bhFéile le clárú leis an dúshlán Líofa a spreagann daoine le gealltamas pearsanta a thabhairt go dtabharfaidh siad faoina nGaeilge a fheabhsú, agus tríd sin, a bheith mar chuid de phobal atá tiomanta faoi fhoghlaim agus úsáid na Gaeilge.

Is féile idirnáisiúnta í Seachtain na Gaeilge a bhíonn ar siúl i mí an Mhárta gach bliain leis an nGaeilge agus cultúr Gaelach a chur chun cinn. Mar cheann de na ceiliúraidh is mó ar an nGaeilge agus an cultúr, beidh na mílte imeacht ar siúl ar fud na hÉireann agus na cruinne. Tugann Seachtain na Gaeilge cuireadh do chách sult a bhaint as an nGaeilge, bíodh tú i do chainteoir dúchais, foghlaimeoir nó ag baint triail as an teanga den chéad uair riamh.

I measc phríomhimeachtaí na féile, beidh an t-ollrith ó Chorcaigh go Béal Feirste, Rith 2014, ar siúl ó 7 – 15 Márta.

Tá liosta mór imeachtaí ar www.snag.ie, ar aip na féile, SnaG 2014, atá saor in aisce le híoslódáil ón App Store agus Google Play.
