Queen’s Camogs capture All Ireland League Division 2 title

QUEENS CAMOGIE HAVE A ” MERRY ” NEW YEAR

Queens University Camogie club claimed the Div 2 league title after a 2-08 to 1.04 win against UL 2 Limerick. Played in the setting of the north campus at NUIM , the Belfast side were quick out of the blocks with Ballycran s Brid Mc Gourty pointing after 40 seconds.
Queens playing against the strong breeze added two points from corner forward Ciara Donnelly , one a free before UL open there account after Referee Ray Kelly called a foul on Queens keeper Cathrine Toner for breaking the square from a puc out.
QUB playing a running game broke in behind the Limerick backline, however good defending from Ciara Hayes and Lisa Hynes prevented a goal, but then an attack down the right released Armagh corner Forward Rachel Merry who fired a bullet to the net. This settled Queens who then squandered several goal chances before UL added two late frees.

This is Queens second title in as many months after adding the Freshers title in December. Manager Joe Baldwin was pleased to add the league saying ” The league was well run with all matches going to plan and winning this leaves us in a good mindset going forward, however exams kick in know and we will have to keep working hard before the Purcell Championship “.
The Ashbourne/Purcell weekend takes place in Queens University this February bring together the very best in 3rd level Camogie which promises to be a fantastic weekend.
